New V6 and V8 engines for next-gen Porsche Panamera
The new Porsche Panamera will receive a new range of engines to better suit parent company Volkswagen Group’s MSB platform – and perhaps models outside of Porsche.
The engines, particularly the V8s, are likely to be shared with other models that will also ride on the MSB platform, such as Bentley’s Continental, from 2017. The new chassis will be engineered to meet specific performance and safety criteria.
“Porsche will have its own new V8 that will be common to the new MSB platform. It’s a family for the next 10 years of cars,” said Porsche chief engineer, Wolfgang Hatz, recently.
The MSB programme is already under way, with recent spy shots revealing camouflaged Panameras probably sporting the new underpinnings in development. The new chassis, of fully flexible modular architecture, also reportedly allows for adjustments in wheelbase length, track and multiple seating arrangements.
