There's no denying that Lupita Nyong'o has been having an amazing year..
After
taking home an Academy award for her portrayal of Patsey in the
Oscar-winning drama, "12 Years a Slave," she began winning over the
fashion set with her stunning red carpet looks. Then in April, the
actress, who is also featured in Miu Miu's spring 2014 advertising campaign, was named the year's Most Beautiful Person by People, as well as the new face of Lancome.
And now Nyong'o has accomplished one of the greatest feats in the fashion industry - she's landed a Vogue cover. On the cover of the glossy's August 2014 issue, Nyong'o is dressed in a purple printed Prada dress with a deep V-neck from the fashion house's fall 2014 collection. The rest of Nyong'o's spread in Vogue, which was shot in Marrakech by Mikael Jansson, features a slew of other top designers and labels, including Givenchy, Rodarte and Proenza Schouler.
In her accompanying Vogue interview, Nyong'o, a
Kenyan-born Yale School of Drama graduate, acknowledged her abrupt rise
to fame following her role in "12 Years a Slave."
"It just feels like the entertainment industry exploded
into my life. People who seemed so distant all of a sudden were right in
front of me and recognizing me - before I recognized them," the actress
told Vogue.
"For a split second, I looked behind me to see who they
were flashing at - and it was me! That was, I think, the beginning of
the end of my anonymity," Nyong'o said of a time she was mobbed by
paparazzi at an airport.
So what's next for this actress-turned-style-icon? She is
slated to appear in "Star Wars Episode VII," and it has been rumored
that she will have a part in "Southpaw" with Rachel McAdams and Forest Whitaker. She will also produce and star in an adaptation of the novel "Americanah."
