Relationship between girls and their fathers is a special one- Girls adore their dads and worship the ground they walk on. They are influenced from a very early age by the relationships with their fathers and it’s therefore important that fathers not only spend quality time with their daughters but that they should strive to leave a lasting foot print in their lives.
This is no mean feat considering we live in a fast paced society where everyone is busy trying to make ends meet. It is becoming increasingly difficult for fathers to spend times with their children. Most parents leave the house before the children are up and come back way after they are asleep.
Cooking is one simple way that fathers can spend quality time with their daughters while leaving a lasting impression on them and it doesn’t require a whole day. By cooking, I don’t mean that one cooks every day but on a lazy Sunday afternoon, decide to teach your daughter a few tricks in the kitchen. Better yet create a tradition that is specific to just the two of you like making special breakfasts every Sunday (This worked with my dad and I) or have a specific dish that when it’s in the menu then only the two of you can prepare it. You can even nickname it for good measure.
By doing this you kill three birds with one stone. One, you get to spend quality time with your daughter, laughing at the mishaps and taking pride in watching her learn and grow while strengthening the bond between the two of you.
Two, by cooking you are actually showing support for the mother and basically saying you love and respect her which leaves a lasting impression on your daughter and influences her when choosing a life partner later in life.
Three, you are crushing the old held tradition that the kitchen is a preserve for women thereby telling your daughter that it is o.k. to cook and this is especially important in the advent of the ‘independent’ woman who finds cooking unattractive.
