After the successful acquisition of WhatsApp by Facebook last week there has been a lot of speculations and uncertainty by users.
Some people claim that it will replace the Facebook manager but more alarm came to it towards end of last week where it was down for a couple of hours. Users reported that they were unable to receive or even send messages, and WhatsApp confirmed these problems with a tweet stating “sorry we currently experiencing server issues. we hope to be back up and recovered shortly.” During this time people feared finding their WhatsApp messages on their Facebook walls. But the issue was soon resolved and the WhatsApp team gave a feed back on Twitter again saying that it was a server issue.
There was a hoax doing rounds in Dubai that there are only 530 WhatsApp accounts available for new phones and that existing users would have to pay 37 cents for every message on the mobile-messaging application. Despite all this, it seems this platform is here to stay as they go on to add new services. “We are going to introduce voice in WhatsApp in the second quarter of this year,” said Jan Koum, the CEO of WhatsApp at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, last night. He also added that “We use the least amount of bandwidth and We will focus on simplicity.” Voice will come to Android and iOS first and then following on some Nokia and BlackBerry phones, he went on to say.
The move came as a plan to make the platform stronger and to be in a better position to compete with many other platforms that offer the voice services such as BlackBerry Messenger (BBM), Line, Skype etc. To add the voice calls will however happen in Q2 2014 after passing 465 million monthly active users. So there is no need to worry as you will not be losing your WhatApp account soon as Koum went on to state that the initial “core values” would be preserved when voice calling is patched in and there will be not complications in its usage.
