Wenger Admits Arsenal Have Zero Chance Of Catching Chelsea

Despite sitting just four points behind leaders Chelsea, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger feels his side have no chance of catching up with Jose Mourinho’s men.
The Gunners made hard work of a 2-1 win at Newcastle with Olivier Giroud scoring two first-half goals before Moussa Sissoko’s goal for the home side, as the visitors secured a vital win which keeps them in touch of the top two.
But Wenger admits Chelsea, who also have two games in hand on Arsenal, have too much of an advantage to be overhauled by either the north London outfit or second-placed Manchester City.
“Chelsea have too much security and at the moment I feel they have enough to be quite serene,” he said.
“We have Manchester City in front of us but if you look behind us it is tight as well so the important thing is to win our games, but Chelsea have a good security.
“We will try and win the next game and then the next one, that is what we have to do.”
The Frenchman admits his side were run very close by their hosts as many of his players were suffering from tiredness, but praised them for keeping up their winning streak.
“The last 40 minutes were difficult because our legs had gone a little bit,” said Wenger.
“Newcastle played very well in the second half but we had an outstanding second half going forward. I’m proud of the performance we put in.
“We have played four games in two weeks and three away games at Manchester United, Monaco and here – we have won all three.”
Wenger singled out match winner Giroud for his contribution, adding: “He was very good. He scores the goals, he fights hard and keeps the ball up front.
“He is like every striker, he wants to score goals and the confidence comes from scoring goals, it’s a vicious circle.
“He is a fighter and has improved technically.”
